Our thoughts are with you and your family during this terrible time. Please be careful giving out bank account information. I had a dear friend lost at sea lost year and did the same while trying to raise money for our air search, the account was hacked and money was stolen.

May your sails be strong and your weather fair as you navigate your way through uncharted seas. With experience by your side enjoy the ride even if it is against the tide. Our love for the sea is a common bond we all agree, good voyage to you with gods speed, make port when you can and throw a line, and be sure when you do, we will be there to tie the bow line.

Spike - I first met you at Squarks 30th - where you were so engrossed in my conversation you fell asleep......Will miss having a chat as we sneak out for a gasper. Will do everything we can to help Nick, Jemima and Fox now and in the future.

A tragic loss to Nicki and the Passey family. In my contact with Spike I saw a devoted father and man happy to share his great sailing knowledge and skills.

Nicki, Jemima and Fox,

We are thinking of you. Nicki you are such a strong and amazing person and I know that you will find away through the heart ache that must be swallowing you up now. We are here for you in any way you need us.

Spikey was such a cheeky, funny fellow. I just can't imagine not running into him at a regatta here and there and having a laugh. He will be greatly missed. We have so many fond memories of our adventures together.

Love to you all,

For all the grief that Spike had when he was younger he grew up to be a man to be greatly admired. He wanted to sail and that is what he did, to perfection. He married a great girl and had a couple of wonderful kids. I know he loved you, Jemima and Fox dearly. Mind you, I think he has left you a handful in Fox.

I have to say it was a surprise when he turned up in Brisbane, after knowing him so many years ago, engaged to one of my best friend’s daughter. But I can say it was a real pleasure that he came back into my life. I can’t say that Spike beating me in my old boat three weeks ago was pleasurable but he deserved it.

I will miss that comment from Jeannie on the occasions when Spike was back in town on a Monday night (The Passey family’s steak night) “Is it a Healey Steak?”. I really hope that Spike can get a better steak where he is now.

Nicki, If there is anything that we can do for you and the kids please just ask.

Whenever you came home from a regatta you couldn't wait to start working on the house.
At the crack of dawn you would borrow my truck and trailer and the minute you got behind the wheel of my truck you thought you were "Bob the Builder".
We will finish the deck at the house and hope it will be up to your standard.
Gunna miss you mate

Nicki, Jemima and Fox,thoughts are with you. Spikey,You lived life to the fullest and achieved what many of us only dream of. Your attitude was always "feet on the ground/same old Spike" and such a nice guy to be around! A role model for young and old yachties like. A life to be celebrated and admired! We hope ya up there smiling down on us!

Nick I know I don't need to tell you that Shane and I will be there for you, Mimes and Foxy whenever you need us. I love you all dearly and will particularly miss Pete's smile and cheekiness especially on Christmas Day when he sits there gives us and the rest of the family no end of stick. He is funny and always smiling when I see him and that is how I will always remember him. He shall be greatly missed by us all. Our love and support is with you always.

You would be blown away with the wonderful comments and expressions of love, support and generosity from the sailing fraternity all over the world.
On a positive note you have given Nicki, even though short, a very exciting life plus two beautiful children.
You have also given your parents Len and Marion and TP and myself the precious gift of two beautiful grandchildren.
You can now RIP
Will always love you

If tears could build a stairway and memories were a lane, We would walk all the way to Heaven, to bring you home again No farewell words were spoken, no time to say good-bye You were gone before we knew it, and only God knows why Our hearts ache in sadness, and secret tears will flow What is meant to lose you, no one will ever know.

Nicki, Fox and Jemima We are thinking of you always and you are in our thoughts and prayers. All our love and support

Nicki , although I haven't known you for a long time , it was obvious to me straight away that you are a great person , a wonderful mother & I'm hoping we can become great mates. I didnt have the privlige of meeting Peter , but I can certainly see what a wonderful person he was from everything I have read about him. I hope to offer you my support in this very difficult time , from my similar experiences. Please believe that you will see the sun again one day.

When I first met you last year on the delivery, I couldn't believe my luck that I was going to be sailing next to someone who had accomplished so much in the yachting world! All the stories you shared with me when we were on watch together about the Volvo ocean race and all the yachting adventures you had been apart of, will keep me inspired forever.

Being fortunate enough to sail with you on the Etchell a few weekends ago was a memorable experience and learnt so much from those two days of sailing, even if we had a little ‘Dust’ on Sunday after you and Aidz were reminiscing over your old photo albums the night before!

To Nicki, Jemima and Foxy and all the family, thoughts are with you at this time.

Spikey you are my sporting idol and I hope that one day I can compete in some of the yachting adventures that you have been a part of, and just maybe one day get an opportunity to compete in the Volvo ocean race.

Will miss you mate,

Carter Perrin

Nicky, I want to send you my thoughts, prayers and sincerest condolences.

Spike will always be one of favorite guys. Wherever we were, we always had each other smiling and laughing. From the crepe fight in Piraeus to long nights joking about Aussies and Texans. He would also never miss an opportunity to talk about you.

I don't have to read through the other comments to know that this will be a common theme. Don't get me wrong, he was a great sailor and fiercely competitive, but he understood life and had a way of connecting with people and putting a smile on their face. That is truly a rare talent.

Godspeed Peter Doriean.

I look forward to more laughs again one day.

Nicky my heart aches for you and your beautiful children.

You have a long road ahead, but you are strong and you have enormous support from all your family and friends who love you and obviously loved Peter.

When times get tough, call on that support. Accept it and your heart will start to heal.

God Bless you Darling.

RIP Pete....

I remember working 26 years ago at Anchor Marine in Sandringham and meeting Pete ( at the time he was known as Boy B through his North Sails days). He was always so friendly and always up for a chat. A gentleman that will never be forgotten. Smooth Sailing

I was lucky to have called Spike a friend and the pleasure of sailing with him. He was always the one to stay late and help and the first to bring his mischevious smile to lighten up the mood on deck or on shore. Being from the USA, Spike and I always had a running debate about Southern Hemisphere sailing and the "great" race. Every race we did and all the time spent was great and I learned from him. We laughed and I will miss him.
I feel for you and you loss.

Hey Spike, never did get you to bring Joe and I a gift for the grinders each day we went sailing but you were spot on when, after we asked each day, you would say you brought "wisdom, humour or intelligence.."
Those little shakes of the head or the 'accidental' destruction of golf carts, all fond memories.
You are missed mate.
Nicki, so sorry for your loss, you are in our thoughts.

It will never be the same without Spike on the end of the sheet, outside the restaurant/bar having a smoke or later with a bloody nose after having an altercation with a foreigner (anyone not from Melbourne). An amazing person who was always positive during the worst of circumstances. Everyone who knew him will never forget him.

I remember playing an America's Cup game together when we were kids. Written in GW Basic and running way to fast on my beast of a 286, you persisted and more times than not got that little white triangle of yours over the line first. You actually ended up in the America's Cup and so much more. Truly an inspiration Cuz.

The sun never sets on a legend... :)
